  • How do I join UT Habitat?
There is no application for UT Habitat. To become a member, all you need to do is pay dues and attend our events! We encourage prospective members to attend one of our Info Sessions, which are held at the beginning of each semester. Membership is limited to current UT students.
  • What is the time commitment like?
General meetings, fundraisers, and socials range from 1-2 hours each and are planned 3-4 times a month. Builds and advocacy events require more time commitment, as Builds are 8-hour workdays and advocacy events can range from 1-3 hours. We don’t require members to attend a specific number of events, but encourage members to try out all event types at least once!
  • How do I become an officer?
Officer applications open at the end of the Spring Semester and positions last for the following school year.
  • Do I need to be a specific major to join UT Habitat?
No, all majors are welcomed! Our members represent nearly all of the colleges at UT, including graduate programs!
  • Do I need experience?
No experience required. There are professionals and experienced volunteers on-site who will teach you everything!
  • Does UT Habitat have dues?
Yes. Members joining in the Fall Semester can either pay $50 for the entire year or $35 for the Fall (and the remaining $15 in the Spring Semester). Members joining in the Spring Semester must pay $35 for the semester. We understand that college is expensive. If dues are a concern, we encourage prospective members/current members to talk to our Treasurer at the beginning of the semester to arrange an alternative option. Nobody will be denied participation in UT Habitat due to financial obligations being too large a burden.
  • Do I have to go to every general meeting or Build?
No! We recommend that members attend at least one build a semester and come to general meetings when possible, but we otherwise encourage members to dedicate their time how they want.
  • I used to be in UT Habitat, how do I rejoin?
There is no formal process for rejoining the organization. All you have to do is pay dues and start coming to events!
  • Is transportation provided for Builds?
Yes! We carpool together for Build Days. Members with cars can volunteer to be a driver and transport other members to and from Builds.
  • What do I need to bring to a Build?
You must wear closed-toed shoes and bring your own water bottle. We recommend wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting dusty or dirty.
